Returns to Bulgaria and resumes work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Promoted to First Secretary rank and is requested to go to Prague

Turns down the appointment and requests from the British authorities to be permitted to stay in England; his request is granted

Starts writing for Art News & Review; starts regular broadcasts on the BBC about the Bulgarian service; becomes a director at several London theatres

Starts work in the film industry as second director of 'Innocents in Paris' with Claire Bloom and Alastair Sim

Lectures in art criticism at the University of London

Meets his future wife, Sonia Joyce

Co-founds the production company 'Bridge Films' with Carlo Ponti, co-producer of the film 'The Millionairess' with Sofia Loren

He and Sonia Joyce buy a house in Chelsea
